Forecasts

An unofficial twitter feed @LCAWeather provides daily forecasts and advise for non locals on the weather during the conference. Typically highs/lows, chance of rain/wind, and reminders regarding sunblock.

  • Sunrise is around 6:15am
  • Sunset is around 8:50pm

Current forecast as of 17th Jan

The weather has been great so far, Sunday was beautiful, and Monday was very warm, but the breeze helped. Unfortunately light showers are expected in the next two days, but they should be brief and minimal.

That said, the longer range is looking good, some drizzle expected again on Friday evening and Saturday, but the sun will be showing for almost all the week.

That brings us to a sometimes tiring reminder, the UV index. It will range from High to Extreme all week, even in the rain - seriously. Please remember to be sun smart. Wear a hat, use sunblock, and long sleeves, especially if you aren't use to the Australian sun.

The temperature will remain high all week, with highs in the late twenties.

Tuesday 17th Jan

Tuesdays high is expected at 32C, but there will be some good northerly winds. This combined with an extreme (13) UV index is a dangerous combination, as you will not feel yourself burning.

There's a chance of showers in the late afternoon or evening, but they will be brief.

Wednesday 18th Jan

There is a shower or two expected during the day, but the wind will have died down. The temperature will be cooler, at a high of 27C

Thursday 19th Jan

Thursday will be a great day, with highs of 27C, a bit of cloud, light winds

Friday 20th Jan

Friday will repeat Thursday, highs 27C, light winds.

Saturday 21st Jan =

Some drizzle in the morning, a high of 26C.

Clothing

You should definitely pack a sunhat, as the UV index can be very high, with burn times in the order of 10 minutes. If you are not use to the Australian sun, then please pack and wear a hat, and use sunblock on high UV days.

Otherwise shorts and jeans are good, light weight shirts/t-shirts, but Ballarat does get cold at night, so pack a jumper/jersey/jacket. Remember it will rain, so a light weight jacket of some sort would be smart.
